06 — Built to Compete
Running taught me how to compete long before I started writing code.
Before software, I was a competitive distance runner at Stephen F. Austin State University, competing in NCAA Division I cross country and track & field.
Over my running career, I won 75+ races and competed everywhere from the 800 meters through the 10K.
But the numbers aren't really the important part. Running taught me that improvement usually comes from doing a thousand small things better: showing up, studying weaknesses, adjusting, staying uncomfortable, and refusing to quit because something gets difficult.
That mindset never really went away. Now I compete with problems.

Problem solver first.
Developer second.
I like understanding why something is broken, why a process is slow, why a user gets stuck, or why an existing tool isn't quite enough.
Sometimes the answer is better code. Sometimes it's a better workflow, a smarter integration, less complexity, better automation, or a product nobody has built yet.
The goal isn't to use the fanciest technology. The goal is to solve the right problem well.

Builder by instinct.
I'm a developer, builder, and problem solver who likes figuring things out.
Before software, a huge part of my life was competitive running. I became a Division I runner at Stephen F. Austin and won more than 75 races throughout my competitive career. That experience shaped the way I work today.
I'm competitive, persistent, curious, creative, and probably a little obsessed with improving things.
Sometimes that means building a Next.js application. Sometimes it means writing a custom WordPress plugin, integrating an API, tracking down a production bug, redesigning a checkout flow, automating something people have been doing manually for years, or turning an idea into an entirely new product.
I'm comfortable across React, Next.js, WordPress, .NET, Payload CMS, APIs, cloud infrastructure, Git workflows, releases, analytics, ecommerce, and production systems.
But the technology isn't really the point.
I like solving problems and building things that work.
